It operates a nationwide cellular network covering over 99 percent of the population. Smart Communications is a wholly-owned mobile phone Smart Communications and Internet service subsidiary of the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT).

On September 30, 2008, it reported communications that it has a little over 34 million subscribers on Smart Communications its GSM/EDGE/UMTS networks ACeS also sells its prepaid satellite phone service in partnership with Smart under the brand SmartLink. Smart offers different levels of service, dependent on both Montjuic Communications Tower the population and the financial capability of the subscriber. On April 20, 2008, Smart updated its logo, changing with the new, shortened letter Smart Communications S , stylized versions of letters A & T , and a new line below the logo. On June 30, 2007, Smart reported that its GSM network consisted of 100 switches and 100,000 base stations, over 2 of which are equipped with wireless broadband capability.

It also has over 23 3G base stations nationwide. Its main focus is to handle the PLDT Group s wireless services business.

ACES has a services agreement with Smart, through which they previously sold a dual-mode GSM/satellite phone service under the brand Smart ACES, Smart Communications which has since been migrated to SmartLink, a purely satellite phone service.
