New Year’s Resolution
So, as we enter the new year there are many things changing for the Sidhe Communications team. One major change will be in my organizational skills. Each week I will dedicate some time to blogging on our site so I can keep the creative ideas flowing and hopefully interact with even more marketing professionals and creative people! We concluded our most successful year thus far in December and we are very excited at the new opportunities arising.
One of the things I have been thinking about in regards to marketing is the importance of research. Whether you are starting a new business or expanding an existing one you may be surprised to find out how many entrepreneurs avoid studying their competitors, completing a feasibility study or even evaluating the full cost of their proposed venture. It is not only important to research but then to analyze the research and strategically rethink your business plan accordingly. A realistic view of what you are getting yourself into is essential. Also, if you do not entertain the possible problems or conflicts that may arise in your plan you leave yourself open to unexpected delays and financial loss. Research is not a fun experience for most busy people. They choose to make assumptions and estimates, rather than dig up the hard data to back their financial projections and business goals. We must humble ourselves, be honest about the potential for failure or mistakes, prepare to come up with creative and inspired solutions when things go wrong and take risks with at least one foot on the ground, keeping us focused.
Change is inevitable, it is the on thing we can count on in life. You can pursue your dreams, personally or professionally, while having a solid strategy based on facts that you have both researched and intuited. Marketing is part time-tested formula and gut instinct. Without one or the other your company image may be flat and unexciting or flakey and unrealistic. Tune in more next week as I explore more of the marketing world and what makes me love the work I do.
