For the last six years I have been living in the beautiful mountain town of Asheville, North Carolina. Three years ago I experienced what many Americans have since 9/11; I was laid off from my job and there were few prospects in sight. After nine months of unemployment and only one call back in my field I had the inspiration to go into business for myself. I was lucky enough to find a talented, intelligent woman interested in investing in a business partnership with me and we began networking with and marketing to the local community. As time passed we realized what many other small business professionals have in the past, our best bet for success was on the Internet. Online we could reach a much broader client base, which would allow us to make more money and eventually support ourselves through the business.

I met with a new client last week and we had an exciting discussion about company/client relationships. In this conversation she made an interesting comment-she is a realtor and she feel that her relationships with her clients are a lot like datingj. Without mutual respect, trust and honesty it will never work. I liked her comparison of business relationships to dating because they are both important investments in other people. I started thinking that the client relationships we are building at Sidhe Communications are really no different. In order to represent our clients well we must have intimate knowledge of their desired image, best qualities, personal goals and belief systems. Since our writing, editing, and marketing services are designed to be a reflection of our clients we have to get to know them and understand their perspective. And our clients have to trust us and be honest about who they are.

Recently I had a 1 hour consultation with another Internet professional and explained why and how our web portal (article syndication on the Internet) service can drive traffic to a web site and lead to more qualified leads. During the conversation I was asked how this service could help e-commerce sites that receive $5.00 profit for each product, as well as, business web sites that receive $15,000.00 profit for services. These types of web sites seem to have very different goals and expectations placed upon them. It appears as if they should have different strategies for attracting traffic, however, the thread between all business on the Internet is that creating a buzz will boost sales. A “virtual reputation” can give you a more competitive edge, especially in an industry that is already saturated.
