Blogging for Dollars
Blogging is just now on the cusp of being utilized in the Public Relations and Marketing profession. Several months ago, I attended a board meeting for the Public Relations Association of Western North Carolina. Board members were joking about blogging. I perked up my ears and listened. From the conversation we were having, I realized professionals in my field were not yet taking blogging seriously. Many still attribute blogging to the category of on-line gossip or political positioning.
The fact is that blogging is an efficient, inexpensive way to load up a site with keyword rich writing, and increase web site traffic.
During the month of May, I visited a site for a national travel magazine I write for. The site is www.serendipitypublishing.com and the magazine is Packaged Travel Insider. The editor, Matt Poe, is one of my favorit editors to work with. He was a freelancer for 25 years, and has a great sense of humor. Matt is also obviously a leader in his profession. He just launched another national travel magazine, Youth Student Traveler. I was checking out the site to see if one of my aritcles had been published on-line. Much to my suprise, I found that Matt had attached a blog to the site, and visitors could easily access it from his home page. I read it, of course. Then I quickly e-mailed Matt that he was my hero. Here is a busy editor of two national magazines and he still makes time to blog.
Why does Matt Poe blog? It’s obvious: blogging works. It attracts the right sort of visitors to his site. He’s several steps ahead of the PR and Marketing professionals in my group. He takes blogging seriously and sees its inherent value as a marketing tool.
So the next time you hear somebody having a good laugh about blogging remember this: in any business it’s the professionals with vision who succeed. It’s time to start bloggging for dollars.
